D4 Dice

The d4 is the lowest die in a standard 7-piece D&D Dice set. In a typical D&D dice set the d4 is a triangular pyramid shaped die. All 4 faces are equilateral triangles, and each number is represented 3 times. A common d4 design has numbers at the edges of the triangle, therefore the roll is read from the top. This is a popular design since all other dice in a D&D set read from the top as well. If the numbers are in the middle of the triangle, then they read from the bottom.

d4 dice are typically used for low damage attacks.

The triangular d4 is the only die in a D&D set that isn’t flat faced on the top. This can make for a very unpleasant surprise if you make a wild roll and someone happens to step on it while searching for it!
